Betty Jo's Story
Betty Jo Goddard, 84, passed away Nov. 27, 2017, in Homer, Alaska. Betty Jo was born April 6, 1933 to Hunter and Lillian (Pritts) Goddard in Windsor, IL, the oldest of 7 children.
She graduated from Windsor High School, received a BA in Ed from Illinois State University and a MA in ED from UC in Boulder, CO. She taught in Peoria, IL and Broomfield Co before moving to Anchorage, AK, in 1963 and experiencing the major earthquake in 1964. She lived in Anchorage and Girdwood, teaching school, writing books, and loving life in Alaska with her many dogs. She later moved to her new home near Anchor Point, AK, where she lived at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents and youngest brother, Myron Thomas. She is survived by brothers, James Goddard, Decatur IL, and John ( Marilyn ) Goddard, Peoria IL, sisters, Mary Lena (Kirk) Storm, Auburn, WA, Evelyn (Hans) Gottschalk, Sonoma, CA, Ardyth (Cecil) Withrow, Springfield, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
