Carolyn Vandermeer

Carolyn York Vandermeer died on June 26, 2019 . She was born December 30, 1946 in Shelbyville, Illinois. Carolyn always carried Shelbyville in her heart and she often thought how she wished she could have lived there her entire life. She still corresponds with her childhood friend Mary Ann Gritzmacher. Carolyn had many happy memories of her kindergarten days with Mrs. Knecht and first grade at Vine Street Elementary. Her parents owned York Floral Company on main street, and both worked for many happy years with Jim Breeding.
Her parents, Virginia Maxine York and Maurice Alfred York are buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville, as are her paternal grandparents, Henry Harrison York and Frederica Caroline York. When her father died in 1953 her family moved to Terre Haute Indiana to be closer to her mother's family, but Shelbyville always lived in her heart as her home. She graduated from Purdue University in 1969 and received a BS in Math from Purdue in 1972. She was a long-time educator, and loved teaching all levels of high school math.
Once Carolyn retired from teaching, she settled into a peaceful and idyllic life of being a full-time Grandma.
She is survived by the children she adored, Randall (Vicki) Vandermeer, Timothy (Melissa) Vandermeer and Diana (Jason) Truesdale. Also by the the Lights of Her Life, grandchildren Delaney Truesdale, Kallie Vandermeer, Maryn Vandermeer, Tim Vandermeer, and Dakota Truesdale, her sister Diana Wortham (Terry), her brother Don (Anna) and many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews. Diana York Wortham and Don York were both born in Shelbyville.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband William B. Vandermeer, her parents, and her sweet grandbabies Kinsey and Ryan Vandermeer.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held on July 1, 2019 at Memorial Oaks Funeral home. Visitation 9:30 - 11:00, Celebration 11AM followed by interment in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
