Evelyn Stokes Wilson Sproul Stokes passed away July 22, 2016. She was born, raised and graduated from Shelbyville IL. She was born December 15, 19147, the daughter of Claude and Evelyn Stokes.
After high school she went to Eastern Illinois University where she received degrees in library science and elementary education. That is also where she met and married her first husband Gene Wilson. They moved to Georgetown, IL where she was the school district's media supervisor/head librarian. She had two daughters then lost her husband to cancer. After a couple years she met and married Gene Sprouls, stayed on at the school and also was the high school librarian. After her position was cut she stayed on as a 4th grade teacher at Ridgefarm Elementary as well as had a craft business with her than husband. They eventually divorced and took her maiden name Evelyn Stokes back, taught for a few more years, then took early retirement and moved to Champaign, IL. She could not just sit around the house and went stir crazy so over the next years she worked at Big Lots and Goodwill.
She is survived by her granddaughter Kailey Wilson, her daughters Renee and Sarah Wilson, her cousins Debra Martz and Scott Henne, also her aunt and uncle Edward and Sandra Henne.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, July 31, at the UMA, 4th and Spruce, Champaign, from 2 pm to 6 pm with mom's favorite desserts and stories.
