Gayle W. Yantis Gayle Weakly Yantis, 99, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2018 in Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Shelbyville, IL.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Dementia Society of America.
Gayle was born on September 21, 1919 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of George F. and Laura Ann (Weakly) Yantis. He was a Shelbyville Community Unit School District #4 bus driver from 1953 to 1984. Gayle grew up on a farm in Flat Branch Twp. and was a student at Westervelt Schools. He started work at age 17 as an auto mechanic at Chrysler Plymouth dealer in Shelbyville, IL. Gayle married Leta E. Howe on August 20, 1940 in Troy, Missouri and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2009. He was a devoted husband, father and will be greatly missed. He enjoyed boating, fishing, satellite TV, driving Toyota minivans, and having rummage sales.
He is survived by his son, Mike Yantis, Shelbyville, IL; grandsons, Tony Young (Cathy) of Olney, IL and Shawn Young (Lynette) of Paxton, IL; great-grandsons, Adam Young, Garret Young, Hayden Young, Parker Young; great-granddaughter, Taylor Young; and step great-granddaughter, Kyrstin Brooks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leta; daughter, Madonna Young; granddaughter Miki Young; brothers, Charles and Glenn Yantis; sisters, Jeanette Brown, and Georgana Halbrook; and son-in-law, Jerry Young.
