H. Scott's Story

Text size

H. Scott Bliler, of Mundelein, IL, passed away February 7, 2017, after a fierce, eleven-month battle with cancer. He was born April 18, 1959 to Jim and Nell Bliler. Scott graduated from Shelbyville High School, attended Judson College and received his master's degree in education from National Louis University. Scott married Terry May in 1985. He began his teaching career at Summit School in Dundee, IL and went on to teach at Deer Path Middle School in Lake Forest, IL. He was a member of The Chapel in Libertyville, IL, serving in the Children's Ministry. He was also very involved in the Men's Bible studies.
Scott adored his wife, Terry, and his daughter, Jessica. He was heartbroken by Jessica's death 18 months ago, but his faith never wavered. As he frequently said, "We don't get the big picture, but God is in control. God is good."
Scott loved his early morning quiet times with the Lord and his walks with his dogs, Sadie and Lady. He was a gentle, generous man who could find the humor in most anything. He loved his family, friends, co-workers and students. Scott loved teaching. He was a strong advocate for his students and never stopped working for them, inside and outside the classroom. Scott loved his nieces, great nieces and nephews, teasing and goofing with them, always asking about their day, their lives.
Scott is survived by his wife, his sister Jamie (Bliler) Hirt, mother-in-law, Laverne May, and sister-in-law, Rhonda Goldufsky. He is also survived by 5 nieces, who, as he told them over the weekend, have been more than nieces: Stephanie (Tony) Nelson, Ashley (Kevin) Jensen, Emily (Nate) Powers, Lucy (Clay) Edens and Polly (Daniel) Downey. He is also survived by their children: Maddy and Travis Nelson, Andrew, Chloe, Elana and Joy Morgan Jensen, Judah and Theo Edens and James Powers.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jessica Morgan Bliler, parents Jim and Nell Bliler, father-in-law John (Arvil) May, brother-in-law Joe Hirt, brother-in-law John D. May, and nephew Michael Shane Lechner.
Services will be held for Scott on Saturday February 25, 2017 at The Chapel, (1200 American Way, Libertyville, IL). Visitation is from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. with a celebration of life following immediately. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials sent to The Children's Ministry at The Chapel, Libertyville, IL or Oasis for Orphans, P.O. Box 1144, Wheaton, IL 60187-1144. Arrangements: Kristan Funeral Home, Mundelein, IL.
