Helen's Story

Helen Maxine Doss, 91, of Windsor passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. She was born November 5, 1925, in Lovington, Illinois, to James and Leta (Bell) Miller.
Helen had a strong desire to serve in the Women's Army Corps, but she met and fell in love with Theron Doss. They got married in McLennan County, Texas on July 1, 1944. Their marriage lasted 70 years.
Helen worked hard her whole life at the Mattoon Garment Factory, Brown Shoe Company, and the Illinois Masonic Home. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing, gathering with family, going to yard sales, listening to big band music, and shopping every week at the Amish stores in Arthur.
Surviving are her children Rosemary (Ed) Courtright of Sullivan, David (Toni) Doss of Scottsdale, AZ, Kevin (Lisa) Doss of Windsor, Shelly (Jess) Clotfelter of Windsor, brother Lloyd Miller of Lake City, FL, and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, two daughters, and her husband.
Private graveside services will be held Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. The family would like to thank Lincolnland Hospice for their care and support.
