Herman's Story

Herman V. Sparr, 90, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Born October 19, 1925 in Christian County he was the son of Rhea "Mae" Walker and Francis "Frank" Sparr. For sixty-six years he was married to Betty Horsman until her passing in 2013. Herman was a farmer, worked for the Illinois State Highway Department then for two local unions driving truck and as a heavy equipment operator. He was past Master and a 50yr member of Clover Leaf Lodge in Herrick. Herman enjoyed playing music, fishing, gardening, and playing cards. Surviving are his daughter Donna (Ken) Casner of Tower Hill; sons Dennis E. Sparr of Princeton, Morris B. (Jennifer) Sparr of Neoga and Troy N. Sparr of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren, one step grandchild and two great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, three sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville from 11 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Burial will be at Ridge Cemetery on Williamsburg Hill.
