Irene's Story

Irene Rentfro, 95, of East Peoria, passed away at 10:37 p.m. at OSF in Peoria on Friday, November 18, 2016. Irene was born March 5, 1921 to William and Maude (Sexton) Hatcher in Tower Hill, IL. She married Byron O. Rentfro on December 14, 1940 in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2007.
Irene was an East Peoria resident for 70 years and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Peoria. She was a loving wife and mother who had a generous and loving heart! She loved her family dearly. Her passion was hosting family events, in particular, her annual Christmas party. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening and was an avid mushroom hunter. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She held management positions at the East Peoria Kentucky Fried Chicken and at Montgomery Wards where she retired in 1985.
She is survived by daughters Arlene Bailey of Groveland and Pamela Jones of East Peoria, son Daniel (Ginger) Rentfro of East Peoria, eight grandchildren Don (Tammy) Bailey, Dave (Kendra) Bailey, Marc Bailey all of Morton, Dan Rentfro, Chuck (Kelly) Rentfro of Midlothian, VA, Brandy (Bobby) Delaney, Tammy (Ryan) Block of East Peoria and Brandon Jones of Myrtle Beach, SC, 18 great-grandchildren, sisters Ina Collins of Battle Ground, WA and Irma Christman of Shelbyville and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Byron, son Paul, son-in-law Don Bailey, four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 with Pastor Kurt Mews officiating with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery, near Shelbyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or a charity of donor's choice.
