James Everett Beals, age 81, of Mattoon passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
A Memorial service for family and friends was held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Schilling Funeral Home. Burial will follow at a later date.
Jim was born on August 27, 1935 in Mattoon the son of Everett and Fern (Thomas) Beals. He married Susan Bowen in 1954. Jim later married Jenny Sipes. They enjoyed more than 30 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on March 30, 2016.
Survivors include his children, Rosanne (Greg) Reynolds of Shelbyville, Paul Beals of Charleston, and Tracy Peterson and Fiancé Geoff Boyd of Mattoon; grandchildren, Matthew Helton of Urbana, Aimee (Jacob) Christner of Shelbyville, Madeline Trimble of Champaign, Olivia (Adam) Parker of Trilla; great grandchildren, Silas Christner and Annie Parker.
Jim graduated from Mattoon High School in 1954 and later worked as a chemical operator at USI in Tuscola, Il. He enjoyed fishing and collected lures and other fishing memorabilia. Jim always put a vegetable garden out and liked to go camping. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Later in life, Jim immensely enjoyed meeting his "coffee buddies" at Hardees on evenings and going to the occasional auction. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
