Kenneth's Story

Kenneth Larry Reatherford, Sr., (known to all as Larry), 76, of Decatur, IL went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 8, 2017 with his family by his side.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel, Decatur, IL with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ohlman Cemetery, Ohlman, IL. Memorials may be made to Decatur Memorial Hospital Hospice or the Tabernacle Baptist Church Capital Campaign in his honor.
Larry was born May 1, 1941 in Moweaqua, IL, the son of Kenneth Roy Reatherford and Mabel Irene Johnson. He married Cinda Sue Dirks on October 13, 1962. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2005. Larry graduated from Shelbyville High School, class of 1959. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company for over 40 years, retiring in June 2001. He was a diehard Cubs fan, avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, and played and loved many sports. Larry was a proud fan at his grandsons sporting events at Warrensburg Latham for many years. He bowled a perfect 300 Game during a tournament in 1975 at the Taylorville Bowl. He was affiliated with the NRA and attended Tabernacle Baptist Church. Larry had many friends and never met a stranger. He always had a good story to tell. He faithfully attended DMH Cardiac Rehab for over 16 years.
He is survived by his children, Stacey Lea Taylor (John) of Decatur, IL, Kenneth L Reatherford Jr (Lance) of St. Louis, MO, Grandsons Joshua R Taylor and Jacob W Taylor of Decatur, IL, sister Donna Lee Mathias of Springfield, IL, brother Frances Tull, special friend Joyce Hargett of Decatur, IL, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Preceding him in death is his wife, daughter Kimberly, and his parents and grandparents.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Esparaz and the nurses and staff of Cancer Care Specialist and DMH Hospice.
