LeRoy Wayne Woessner, 85, of Shelbyville, passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Shelbyville Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. LeRoy was born August 20, 1931, in Epworth, ND, the son of Otto Emil and Ida May (Pierce) Woessner. He served on the USS Gardiners Bay with the United States Navy from 1950-1954 as an Electronic Technician 2nd class. He married Theresa Mifflin on October 29, 1955 in Springfield. LeRoy worked as an Automation System Engineer for the Federal Aviation Administration retiring in 1986. LeRoy was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Shelbyville. He was an avid reader who enjoyed learning so much that he attended Eastern Illinois University for a year after his retirement. LeRoy is survived by his wife Theresa of Shelbyville; son Robert Woessner of Orland Park; daughter Deborah Lea Post and husband Daniel of Bridgeport, WV; four grandchildren Justin Woessner of Blue Island, and Aaron Woessner of Chicago and Shaylin Post and Maxwell Post of Bridgeport, WV; brothers Donovan Woessner, Edward Woessner and Robert Woessner. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Francis Woessner and Harold Woessner. Visitation will be Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Reverend E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Burial will take place on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Salvation Army, or the Food Pantry at the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville.
