Marilyn Ellen Scott (Duckett), 94, of Findlay IL, passed away peacefully, without pain, and surrounded by family at her home at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2017. She leaves behind her adoring and grateful family: daughter Nancy Beem and son Jim Scott and wife Teddy of Findlay. Marilyns cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren include: grandson Scott Beem and wife Jackie; great- grandchildren Sophie and Bruce; grandson Michael Beem and wife Decka; great-grandchildren Noah and Everlee; granddaughter Sarah Read and husband Allen; great-grandson Benjamin (Nancy); granddaughter Jamie Scott; grandson Andy Scott and wife Kerri; great-grandchildren Jacob, Wesley, and Brody; and grandson Anthony Scott (Jim). She is also survived by her sister Lula Mae Thompson and husband Jim of Shelbyville and her beloved dog, Rusty. Marilyn was born on September 29, 1922 in Westervelt, IL, the son of J. B. and Fannie Murrel Martin Duckett. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1940, a charter member of the National Honor Society. She married D.E. Scott on November 15, 1941 and celebrated 51 years of love and devotion. Marilyn worked at the ammunitions plant in Illiopolis during WWII; worked at the Oliver corporation in Shelbyville, IL; worked at the Findlay Elementary School as a cook; worked at the Shelby County Treasurers office; and helped run the family farm for decades. She was active in the community of Findlay and Shelby County with her children and grandchildren for many years. Marilyn was a member of the First Christian Church of Findlay; the Shelby County Home Extension; and was a chapter Angel of Tops in Shelbyville, IL. Marilyn was generous and peace loving. She chose to be positive and kind and was uniquely made with a special purpose, setting an example of kindness and empathy for family and friends. She deeply believed that three things will last forever faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13. She was preceded in death by her husband D.E. Scott; her daughter Mary Ann; parents; and brothers, Bernard Duckett, Gerald Jim Duckett, and William T. Bill Duckett. Funeral services will be held 6:00 P.M. Friday September 8, 2017 at the Findlay Christian Church in Findlay, with Rev. Richard Hargrave officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
