Maxine G. Barrett, 99, of Sullivan, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Friday (April 22, 2016) in Mason Point, Sullivan. Celebration of Life Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan, with Pastor Grant Wade officiating. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials are suggested to the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library, the Weekend Food Pac Program or to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at reedfuneralhome.net. Maxine was born September 28, 1916 in Okaw Township in Shelby County the daughter of William Henry and Hattie Barker Gordon. She married Kenneth Barrett on April 24, 1938 in Shelbyville and he preceded her in death on December 12, 1978. She had worked at the Brown Shoe Company and then was a cook for the Powers School in Sullivan. Maxine was a member of the Sullivan First Christian Church and had been a long time member of the Moultrie County Home Extension. Surviving is her daughter Pam (Richard) Murphy of Sullivan; grandchildren Robert (Kelli) Murphy of Tolono, Melinda Ohlsson of Tolono; great grandchildren, Brett (Chelsea) Murphy, Zachary Ohlsson, Faith, Quinn and Mia Shannon and great greatgrandchildren Haiven and Emery Murphy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, great granddaughter Brittany Murphy and three brothers Eugene, Forrest and Lester Gordon.
