Mildred J. Miller, 97, of Shelbyville, passed away at 9:42 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Shelby Manor in Shelbyville with loved ones by her side. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.
Millie was born May 3, 1920, in Westervelt, the daughter of Loy "Jack" E. and Alta H. (Skiff) Martin. She and Stanley Keith Miller were united in marriage on September 15, 1940 in Warrensburg, MO. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2005.
Millie was a hairdresser and an instructor at the Decatur School of Beauty Culture. She was a member of the Fourth Street United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and National Campers and Hikers Association where she served as Chaplin. She cherished time spent with her family as well as her church family.
She is survived by daughters: Patricia (Charles) Holmes, Carol Ray, and S. Kay Stein all of Shelbyville; ten grandchildren: Christine (Calvin) Wachtel of Altamont, Charles (Barb) Holmes Jr. of Lakewood, Susan (Steve) Koontz of Lakewood, Brian (Keri) Holmes of Shelbyville, Bradley (Tina) Holmes of Shelbyville, Marsha (Dan) Dial of Cheyanne, WY, Jeffrey (Donna) Stein of Mt. Zion, Craig Stein of Shelbyville, Alan (Lisa) Ray of Shelbyville, Mark (Melanie) Holmes of Charlotte, NC; 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; two sisters Betty Kimlel and Alice Ruff; two brothers Roy and Merlin Martin; brothers-in-law Carl Kimlel and Mervin Ruff; sister-in-law Joy Martin; son-in-law George Stein and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Fourth Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Mitch Ramey officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Fourth Street United Methodist Church.
